p and i definitely kicked some pictionary ass. i stayed up three or four hours later than i probably would have thanks to my two cups of coffee (after two weeks of no coffee). i only slept about 3 hours because my housemate's dad insisted on calling at 7 in the morning and letting it ring about 20 times, so i bounced out of bed and did some yard work. jason and i went on a highly amusing hike. i wanted to go to eagle creek (the old growth forest valley near estacada, not the gorge-ous waterfall-strewn climb in the gorge) but he demurred, citing a reference to driving over potholed gravel roads in the hike description. so he kind of randomly picked "gillette lake" out of my hiking book, the first segment of the Pacific Crest Trail on the Washington side of the gorge. the text described a non-spectacular hike through 'pleasant' douglas fir woods and spring wildflowers and occasional views of the misty, craggy gorge, and then lunch by a lake. we started hiking through second growth in drizzly rain which petered off. before long we found ourselves winding through a clearcut, the naked torsos of trees a few hundred meters away. the book hadn't said anything about a clearcut, so we kept rounding a curve thinking we would find ourselves in the mossy woods again. after the better part of a mile through dead tree stumps, overgrown non-native weeds and smashed undergrowth, jason announced, "this trail sucks." after awhile we realized that my edition was published in 1998 and that this clearcut had been created since then. there was more hiking through second growth, until we reached a turquoise blue lake surrounded by cub scouts camping and trying to build fires, but overall we rated the hike a 5 (out of 10). oh well. i think this weekend we're going to Opal Creek, so that'll make up for it.
i want this song that was at the end of Finding Forrester. "Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World by I. Kamakawiwo'ole" somebody put it on a CD for me.
