best cramp & body ache cure
by esther, 24 September 2002
better than tylenol, tempting electoruction by using that heating pad, or that messy IcyHot that sticks to everything. . .

1. get an old tube sock

2. half-fill it with rice

[optional: 3. drizzle it with a few drops of nice essential oil if you have any lying around: lavendar is good. Aromatherapy!]

4. knot the end to prevent spillage

5. when needed, microwave for 1.5 minutes-- or if you are like me and lack a microwave, in the oven (on the standard 300-400ish range) for 5 minutes or a little less. feel it to be sure its hot. (if the nylon starts melting in the sock, you'll smell it pretty fast)

lots of recent studies have shown heating is far better for cramps (i.e. lasts longer) than pain killers, and it's also not taking a toll on your liver. this is easier & a lot cheaper than buying a heating pad too--and you don't have to sit near an outlet.
