The quasi-inaugural event
Come out this Thursday for a brief lunch-time spell or an epic social hour with some of Oakland's finest, for the first official meeting of LGL. We have high hopes that this little shindig will turn out to be the beginning of an Algonquin Round Table for the 21st Century, an Oakland Renaissance, if you will.
Find us at Pacific Coast Brewing Co., right next to the Marriott/convention center downtown (map). We'll be on the patio if it's warm enough, inside if it's the usual almost-summer weather.
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. plenty of time to swing by on your lunch break, or dig in and enjoy all the extra time you have while you're looking for somewhere to take a lunch break from.
Sustenance: One fine lunch menu, a host of home brews, and a bevy of other...beverages.
Bring: yourself, cash, and at least one charming anecdote.
R.S.V.P. in the comments so we can save you a seat.
Feel free to share this invitation with your nearest and dearest, even if they're not quite Oaklanders.
Two quotes we may or may not discuss:
1. "I am very busy finding out what people mean by what they say." (Gertrude Stein, Oakland gadabout and inspiration for that flag flying over the Sears lofts)
2. "Hooray, hooray, the first of May. Outdoor necking starts today." (Mr. Prenter, my high school history & psych teacher. He said it every year.)

I would love to come, I will have my 4 year old daughter with me. I love Mr. Prenter, and was just thinking about him. Gwen, not surprisingly, your memory is far better than mine, I didn't remember the quote until you wrote it.

Well, of course I'll be there! I'd like to think of myself as a founding member of LGL, even if you've done all the work :)
