Spring colors Tuesday
I am so delighted that two of my PINK photos from yesterday were highlighted at
Poppytalk. I am in some seriously good company, go check the others out.
Today is green for Poppytalk Spring Color Week!
The last one is of the feral parrots in San Francisco that the book and documentary The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill are based on. They come down from the hill to nibble at the cherry blossoms in the spring and it is like nothing you have ever experienced. The movie’s pretty darn good, too, highly recommended if you can’t make it over to downtown SF.

Today we made a menu for the week for the first time in ages, bought far fewer groceries than we usually do [planning! it works! who knew!], and for dinner made pizza [Chad has become THE best pizza maker ever, click through on the photo for what went on mine] and Brussels sprouts* [D swore she hates them but ended up picking the leftovers out of the pan. HA! It’s totally the bacon.] and it was soooooo good. Lousy picture but worth documenting nonetheless:
* I think lexica is the one who shared this recipe: cut the ends off the sprouts and halve, toss in oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, then bake. I went the stovetop route because the oven was full of pizza, then I tossed in some chopped-up leftover bacon and cooked for a couple minutes.
And here are some of the trinkets I bought at the swap meet yesterday:
Also today I did another thing from my extremely detailed list of every single nook and cranny in this house that I am going to clean, sort, and purge the hell out of. One a day hopefully. Today was the cookbooks, got rid of a bag full. And I got my Yelp elite status for 2010 which means more awesome parties with free food and booze.
Tomorrow is:
– write and send cover letter [my first since 2000! what!]
– mail rent
– farmer’s market
– I might go to a happy hour meetup, or I might chicken out because I will only know one person there, but I am determined to meet new people, so I think I will go.
Wednesday is coffee with J.
This week is going well so far [*knock*], how’s yours?

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before? Took a plane to go on vacation and stayed in a hotel [not motel! not couch!] for an entire week. Experienced a real lightning/thunder storm.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for this year? I don’t make them. I am making a list of things I would like to work on this year, which is the list I make all the time.
5. What countries did you visit? Just the U.S. I did go to the South, which is *like* a different country.
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Inauguration day was a pretty damn big deal. <— stealing this answer from S. who stole it from spoggy
March 26 was my personal favorite.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? getting better at jewelry making, selling some to people.
9. What was your biggest failure? I don't want to sound all motivational, but I don't really believe in failure in general. Some things it takes me awhile to get around to *doing*…but doing is most of the battle so whatever and if it didn't work, figure it out a/o move on.
11. What was the best thing you bought? this year's ornament.
14. Where did most of your money go? Bills.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009? All those tropical electronic ones. “Maybe So, Maybe No.”
24. What was your favorite TV program? Psych
26. What was the best book you read? Langston Hughes’ I Wonder As I Wander [I know I have mentioned this before but 1. it is awesome and 2. I don’t read much anymore.]
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If it was over. Oh, wait, it is! HOORAY FOR 2010.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? There are so many. Today I am miffed about the cover story in this week’s Economist [women will make up more than 50% of the US workforce in a few months] that says “motherhood, not sexism” is the reason for wage discrepancy between the sexes.
38. Who was the best new person you met? I have enjoyed getting to know J. better. Also Coach Thompson is pretty awesome. And I have met and gotten to know more people than I got to know last year.

A friend posted this about her co-worker. It’s something I think I might benefit from doing, too. I have been working for several years on being more positive in general — I do the five good things journaling and try to have a brighter outlook but sometimes the catty creeps in and it is all I can do to keep my mouth shut.
He’s started this positive thinking exercise where he’s wearing an elastic bracelet for a month and whenever he says something negative he has to snap it and then put the bracelet onto the other hand.
The goal is to keep the bracelet on one hand for 30 days by training yourself to not say anything negative. The theory is that your thoughts and actions will follow.
It has sparked fun debates on positive/negative thinking. And it’s been contagious.
What do you think?

I listed two things on Etsy. It’s my first time. We’ll see how that goes.

[And yes, I have a Barton Finkly FRESSSSSH FRUUUUUUIT!!! echoing in my head.]
In preparation for that, I took a bunch of photos of earrings I’ve made for myself over the past year and put them up on flickr. Just like I’ve been threatening I was going to do since ages ago. These are my most recent, I was going to sell them but I changed my mind and am keeping them for myself. You cannot beat green ovals and disco balls.
Product photography is HARD. Light is so fleeting…

“Jazz music is an intensified feeling of nonchalance,” said playwright Francoise Sagan. Keep that in mind during the coming week, Sagittarius. Whether or not you actually play or listen to jazz, do whatever’s necessary to cultivate intensified feelings of nonchalance. It’s extremely urgent for you to be blithe and casual. You desperately need to practice non-attachment as you develop your ability to not care so much about things you can’t control. You’ve got to be ferociously disciplined as you transcend the worries and irritations that won’t really matter much in the big scheme of things.
