Roses, check.

Pinky

Spanish and Provencal lavender, check.

Spanish lavenderLotta lavender!!!!

Grapes, check.

Grapes, year 3

[This is their third year. Last year they fruited for the first time and were so, so close to being ready for me to eat, then we went to Portland and the raccoons completely stripped them while we were gone. Very rude!]

Bottlebrush, check!

Bottlebrush #2

[I planted this sorry little thing two years ago and it is still only about a foot high and just now starting to finally bloom. Go bottlebrush!]

Ooh, that bottlebrush is neat-looking! I’ve had my house/yard for 11 years now and have still never had a proper garden. Though a friend came over recently and helped me plant strawberry plants in the sunny front yard. We’ll see what happens…

We lived in an apartment until a few years ago and I went a little gungho then burned out on the gardening. I am trying to be more measured with it — a bit at a time.

Have you seen Gayla Trail’s Grow Great Grub?

her first book, You Grow Girl, taught me a whole lot and makes it all look cute and doable…

The bottlebrush are pretty common here in California. My grandmother had one in her yard and I’ve wanted one of my own ever since. I’ll try to get a shot of the big one down the street, they’re pretty spectacular.
